Even in defeat, the United States demonstrated this morning it is a world-class soccer team. And Madison area enthusiasts proved to be world-class fans.
Team USA lost to Germany, 1-0, but it exceeded all expectations, finishing the World Cup among the top eight teams in the world.
Throughout the area, fans drove through early morning rain to assemble at bars and restaurants that opened just for the game, which began at 6:30 CDT and was televised on ESPN.
