SAN FRANCISCO _ A hearing began Monday that will determine whether Contra Costa Superior Court Judge Bruce Van Voorhis committed willful misconduct and consistently mistreated others.
Van Voorhis denies the allegations brought by the state Commission on Judicial Performance. A three-judge panel will decide whether the charges are true. If they are, the commission can reprimand or remove Van Voorhis from the bench.
The more serious charge, willful misconduct, stems from a ruling Van Voorhis made in a drunken driving case last year. A former prosecutor testified Monday that the judge told her after the trial that he kept out certain evidence only to see ...
