The resurrection of extinct species. until now a Hollywood concern, has come one step closer with the successful copying of genes from the Tasmanian tiger, an animal that has been extinct since 1936.
The replicated genes. which may eventually be used to produce synthetic chromosomes, were created by copying DNA taken from a 136 year-old preserved foetus.
'We are now further ahead than any other project that has attempted anything remotely similar using extinct DNA.' according to Mike Archer. director of the Australian Museum. Sydney. where the research is being carried out. He said that the museum plans to ...
