Hemorrhoids.
They're the butt of many a joke - unless you happen to have them.
"One of my patients told me, 'You know doc, everybody laughs and snickers when you talk about it. But when it happens to you it's not funny. It hurts like the devil,'" said Dr. James Wielgolewski, a colorectal surgeon at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield and Edward Hospital in Naperville.
In case you still have the giggles, this statistic might sober you up: More than half the people in this country will develop hemorrhoids, usually after the age of 30.
