VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Xenon Genetics Inc. announced today that its research team together with collaborators have demonstrated that the gene (ABCA1) responsible for regulating levels of HDL- cholesterol (or "good-cholesterol") plays an important role in protecting against cardiovascular disease. Xenon's research showed that mice over- expressing human ABCA1 had a marked reduction in atherosclerosis compared with mice where human ABCA1 was not over-expressed. These findings appear in the July 1st issue of The Journal of Clinical Investigation (JCI).
