WASHINGTON -- Marsha Johnson Evans will become the 13th president of the American Red Cross, the nation's premier humanitarian service organization, effective August 5, 2002. She will also serve as the organization's chief executive officer.
As executive director of the Girl Scouts since 1998, Evans brings an impressive array of experience to her new position at the Red Cross -- including a 29-year career with the U.S. Navy. Retiring in 1997 as a Rear Admiral, Evans was the second woman in history to have achieved that rank.
