MIAMI -- Burger King Corporation today issued its first annual report detailing its achievement of significant milestones in the area of industry-leading practices and audits for the humane handling of food animals in the U.S. The guidelines, which were adopted in June 2001, require suppliers to the BURGER KING(R) system to adhere to some of the strictest standards in the industry for the care, housing, transport and slaughter of cattle, swine and poultry. Burger King Corporation is enforcing the guidelines initially through a series of announced audits at suppliers' facilities, and later through unannounced audits.
