The DuPage County's first discovery this year of a dead bird infected with the West Nile virus has prompted health officials to issue a new batch of warnings to residents.
The dead crow was found at the corner of Armitage and Pearl avenues in the unincorporated DuPage County neighborhood of Glen Ellyn Countryside on June 18. It tested positive for the virus, said Rick Daugherty, senior sanitarian at the DuPage County Health Department.
The bird is the first DuPage County case in 2002, but 14 cases have been reported statewide since May 1.
In 2001, 21 infected birds were found in DuPage.
