Long term care consists of a variety of health and social services provided over an extended period of time. The services needed are generally non-medical and can be provided in a home, community setting, or nursing home. While the majority of people needing long term care today are elderly, in the future there will be a larger number of children and young adults requiring such care because of recent medical advances keeping more people with severe disabilities alive.
