The $14.2 billion budget approved by the state Senate on Wednesday included funding for a full pharmacy school at Elizabeth City State University.
In March, the University of North Carolina Board of Governors released a study that estimated that a fully staffed stand-alone pharmacy school at ECSU could cost more than $15 million the first year, including buildings and staff.
Other options were for the university to offer a joint pharmacy degree with East Carolina University at a cost of $11 million or to have the university establish a cooperative program with N.C. State University at a cost of about $7 million.
