RAY WINSTONE is describing jellied eels. And who better to describe a Cockney delicacy than a real-life Cockney?

He argues he's not a real Cockney because the Bow bells didn't chime when he was born, but I detect that perhaps he's pulling my leg.

"Well," he says of the eels, "they're eels, and they're in jelly. And they're great. Bit of vinegar, bit of pepper, lovely. It's like herring - you know, rollmops - except eel, and you used to get them on the bar on a Sunday with your pint. Really nice.
