SEATTLE _ Lots of people feel down, blue or sad every once in a while. That's part of being human. But to those who suffer from depression, these bouts may be long-lasting and have dire effects on quality of life.
To find more of the millions of Americans who suffer from depression, yet who may not realize they have a treatable illness, primary-care clinicians (family-practice doctors, nurse practitioners, internists and others) are being urged to regularly screen for it as patients come to see them for everything from the flu to a backache.
