THE mountain air was crystal clear and the heavy scent of Mediterranean blooms drifted lazily through the taverna. Suddenly the calm was shattered by a volley of gunfire, three nerve-jangling bangs, loud - and very close.
As we sat transfixed a man who could have stepped straight from the screen in Zorba the Greek emerged from the kitchen in a haze of gunpowder smoke.
