Scientists and ethicists see genetic testing as a battleground to debate disease screening vs. eugenics, good vs. evil. Cathy saw something else.
She saw ultrasound pictures of her embryos taped to the dresser by her bed. She saw her ceiling as she lay flat for 12 days, hoping in vain those embryos would "take" to her womb.
She saw an "It's a Girl!" stork go up on her neighbor's lawn, while nothing but heartache came of two in-vitro fertilization cycles.
And so she saw genetic testing as a way to find out why she was having trouble getting pregnant. She saw the need for closure.
