The state of Ceara is close to overtaking Sao Paulo as Brazil's major exporter of shoes. Ceara was responsible for only 0.6% of Brazil's shoe exports in 1996, but this had grown to 8.14% by April this year, with Sao Paulo being responsible for 8.22%.
