February 6: Princess Elizabeth is in Kenya when she learns of the death of her father, George VI.

February 7: Queen Elizabeth arrives back in London to be met by the Duke of Gloucester, Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill, and the Cabinet.

Arriving back at the princess's apartments at Clarence House, she was met by her father's private secretary, and had to carry out her first royal duty - signing papers regarding a soldier court-martialled for homosexuality.
