Six years ago this column featured proustite, an arsenic member of the major ruby-silver family (Cook 1996). The species was chosen because of its unusual rarity in well-crystallized specimens--which leads, of course, to very high collector desirability. Although typically not as attractive, the other dominant member of the family, the antimony-analog pyrargyrite, is similarly sought, yet offers collectors somewhat better hope of successfully securing a fine specimen.
