New Mexico Charities Miss US West Foundation.

Jul. 4--ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.--In a state like New Mexico, with few large corporations, charities say it's tough to find funding if a major source dries up.

Between 1995 and 1999, the US West Foundation gave more than $1 million a year to more than 200 nonprofit organizations in New Mexico, according to Prescillia Cappucilli-Burt, former regional program officer for the foundation.

During the same period, US West distributed an average of $26 million per year throughout its 14-state local phone territory, she said.
