LEBANON, Mo. _ Lem Hutton was trying to get the trout at Bennett Spring State Park to swat flies.
Wading into a shallow section of the stream, he used one whip of his fly rod to gently deposit his insect imitation on the surface. As the dry fly drifted down the edge of the current, a trout came up and slurped in the offering.
And Hutton felt the same satisfaction that he always does when he fools Mother Nature.
"I've been at this a long time, but I never get tired of seeing a trout rise to take a dry fly," said Hutton, 74, of Independence, Mo. "I love fooling them_getting them to wheel around to look at that fly, then rise to take it.
