HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. _ Every Fourth of July, Margie Dorney stands guard on the porch of her West Newport home, ready for trouble.
She and other neighbors worry the growing mobs of young people looking to party at the beach may unleash the type of Independence Day riots that plagued neighboring Huntington Beach not long ago.
From 1993 to 1995, Huntington police clad in riot gear drenched out-of-control crowds with water hoses and revelers set fire to couches in the streets. In 1995, a man died after being shot on July 4.
