Jul. 5--The family of William G. Hasty, chairman of the state Department of Transportation, and their associates own more than 540 acres valued at nearly $11 million near the route of the proposed Northern Arc.
Much of the properties are within a mile and others within three miles of the proposed western routes of the controversial $2.2 billion highway.
They range from small lots with homes to undeveloped tracts of more than 100 acres, a search of Cherokee County records indicated.
