Off-task behavior in today's students may pale in comparison to the seriousness of the violent student behavior reported almost daily in the media. However, Langdon (1997), in a Phi Delta Kappa Poll of Teachers' Attitudes toward the Public Schools, found that teachers reported two off-task behaviors as their most serious concerns. Schoolwork/homework assignments not completed was ranked first by 71% of the teachers followed by behavior that disrupts class which was checked 58% of the time by teachers in the survey.
