QUANTICO, Va.--The Marine Corps is looking to keep its 400 General Dynamics [GD] M1A1 Abrams tanks viable for the next 20 years with firepower enhancements and survivability upgrades in the near term and anticipated engine and transmission upgrades in the longer term, according to a program official.
"The M1A1 tank, in the Marine Corps, will be in our inventory until at least 2025. What that really means is that the M1A1 tank is not a legacy system within the Marine Corps," Col.
