Members of the Philadelphia Jug Band met at Council Rock High School in Newtown, Pa. in the early 1960's, where they formed a contemporary folk group, the Ridgerunners. In 1963, two members of the group went to the second Philadelphia Folk Festival, where they heard the Jim Kweskin Jug Band, and soon thereafter decided to focus exclusively on the more blues-based jug band music. Other jug bands sprang up around Bucks County, according to the liner notes for this album, including The Yardley Mountain Frog Stompers whose line-up included a Council Rock High School math teacher.
