CANBERRA, July 8 - Australian defence companies are seeking a share of what could be an $A8 billion ($US4.46 billion) windfall from Australian involvement in the United States Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program.

Tenix managing director Paul Salteri said US government investment in defence research had driven much of America's technological growth and last week's Australian decision to join the JSF program started Australia down the same track.
