EUROPE'S biggest halibut farm is to be built in North Wales with the creation of 55 jobs.
The pounds 19.2m plan, for a disused quarry on Anglesey, will place the island at the forefront of European fish production.
It will include Wales' first on-site fish processing plant and commercial scale marine hatchery.
The Welsh Assembly yesterday announced a pounds 3.6m European grant for the scheme, which will lie next to an existing turbot fish farm at Penmon.
The initial target is for a minimum output of 1,000 tonnes of halibut a year.
