Are Health Benefits an Effective Recruiting and Retention Tool for Hourly Employees?
YES
We have done surveys of both exiting employees and new employees, and in both cases, health benefits are in the top three reasons of why they left or why they are coming to work for us. The feeling is stronger in the management ranks, but it is still very prevalent among hourly workers.
We've also found that hourly workers' concerns about insurance are premium-driven. They're looking more for something they can afford than for a typical benefits plan with all the extras.
