Overview.There are lots of different types of rice but the most popular one in Europe is white or milled rice where the hull and bran are removed. Paddy rice is the whole grain taken off the plant at harvest and the rawest type. However, the major market interest centres around the different white rice varieties such as basmati and indica. Basmati is an aromatic long grain rice originally cultivated in India and Pakistan while indica has narrower grains which remain separate when cooked and is typically grown in tropical and sub-tropical climates such as India, Pakistan and Thailand.
