GROWING UP IN CHICAGO in the 1950s, Robert Fous love to play burnout with his buddies, but sometimes the pain was too much for him to take.

The rules of the game were simple, as each player would throw a baseball as hard as they could to a fearful friend located not far enough away to hide the pain. Whoever was eventually in too much pain to continue was the loser.

With a little ingenuity, Fous found success in the game when he modified his glove, shoving four fingers into the two holes on the left side of the glove, thus leaving the fingerholes near the pocket empty to absorb the pounding of the ball.
