Federal-Mogul Corp. has developed a new single-piece, all-steel piston for diesel engine applications. Called the Monosteel piston, it is being supplied to a global heavy-duty truck engine manufacturer as part of a five-year agreement that is expected to generate nearly $100 million in sales for Federal-Mogul over the life of the contract.
Under the contract, Federal-Mogul will supply its Monosteel pistons for an on-highway diesel engine that is scheduled to begin production in the spring of 2003. The Monosteel piston will be used on several versions of this engine, the company said.
