An award-winning restaurateur for three decades, Michael Turback of Ithaca has written a book on ice cream sundaes, banana splits and ice cream sodas.

"A Month of Sundaes" (Red Rock Press, $19.95, hardcover) looks at the lore of America's quintessential dessert over the centuries.

Turback says, "There are inklings that the concept (ice cream) may have been Himalayan and/or have originated in the gourmand minds of ancient Rome where the heart of a dainty called melca appears to have been frozen milk."
