IT IS hard to imagine a better way of killing a cause than having President Saddam Hussein of Iraq bestow his blessing on it. In recent weeks Iraq's dictator has been saying that his invasion of Kuwait was, in some indefinable way, part of a plan to liberate Palestine. By saying so, he associates the Palestinians with his aggression and taints their cause in the eyes of the West. Yet the supposedly canny Palestinians have rallied wildly around his banner. Why?
