The Flying J truck stop chain cannot build a 14,076-square-foot travel plaza in Salina. The town's planning board denied the company's request Thursday.
In 1999, the truck stop chain asked Salina if it could build the plaza on Route 57, at the Liverpool bypass, near residential neighborhoods. After three years of controversy and thousands of petitions from angry residents who live near the site, the planning board unanimously rejected the request.
