DALLAS _ Botox may be the ultimate vanity drug for some people, but many of its regular users are not seeking a prettier face.

Karen McLinjoy, for one, began using Botox about 18 months ago to control the pain caused by metal disks implanted in the joints of her jaw.

With Botox injections every three months, her pain became manageable, says the 34-year-old Dallas geologist, who suffers from deteriorating temporomandibular joints or TMJ. "I still take painkillers, but just not as often," she says.
