The German company Degussa plans to produce the SAP (super absorbing polymer) in Brazil. The investment will amount to US$40mil within a total of US$140mil earmarked to Brazil between 2001 and 2004. The company estimates a production of 35,000 m tons of SAP per year and an income of US$52.5mil. Degusa estimates a consumption of 40,000 m tons of SAP in diapers and pads or US$60mil. Degussa turns over US$200mil per year in Brazil. It holds six plants in Brazil being five in Sao Paulo and one in Espirito Santo.
