A LONE gunman opened fire on French President Jacques Chirac yesterday in a re-creation of the Day of the Jackal assassination attempt.
The attacker, aged 25 and with links to neo-Nazi groups, pulled a .22 sporting rifle from a guitar case as Chirac inspected troops during the Bastille Day military parade in Paris.
He fired a single shot, which missed, before he was overpowered.
