CAPRON -- Denny Hamlin raised eyebrows a few weeks ago when he won a pair of races and moved atop the Late Model Stock points standings at Southampton Motor Speedway.
Indeed, some pit observers believe Hamlin's unexpected rise was the reason for a post-qualifying under-the-hood inspection of the fastest six qualifiers Friday night.
Reportedly, NASCAR officials were looking for traction control devices.
They found none, however, and Hamlin drove to an impressive third victory that strengthened his points lead.
