JPATS IOC. Raytheon's T-6A Texan II, the Joint Primary Aircraft Training System, has achieved initial operational capability, the Air Education and Training Command at Randolph AFB, Texas, said last week. JPATS is to replace the Air Force T-37 and the Navy T-34C, though questions have arisen about the Navy's commitment to the program. Air Force Gen. Don Cook, AETC commander, says in a statement that JPATS is "a very effective training system" and that all components of JPATS are now operational at Moody AFB, Ga. The Air Force is to buy nearly 400 JPATS in the next seven years.
