MORE than two million women are currently receiving hormone replacement treatment in Britain.
But last week its safety was thrown into doubt after an eight-year American study revealed that the risks of HRT could outweigh the benefits.
US researchers found the treatment increased the chances of breast cancer by 26 per cent, heart attack by 29 per cent and strokes by 41 per cent.
The study, which also found overall cardiovascular risk rose by 22 per cent, has now been cancelled.
