Someday in the produce department of your grocery store, you may be faced with choosing from different colored carrots.

UW-Extension nutrition specialist Sherry Tanumihardjo says rainbow carrots exist, but it will be a few years before multicolored carrots are available in grocery stores.

Carrots are familiar to most Americans as an orange vegetable, but they also come in other colors. By the time orange carrots originated, in the 17th century in Europe and the Middle East, purple and yellow carrots had already been developed.
