Jody Schutte was 23 and running restaurants in the Chicago area when he began having throat problems. Eventually he went to a cancer clinic and was told he had acute non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

"They told me I wasn't going to live," said Schutte. "They told me to go home, basically."

So Schutte came back to Madison, where he could be close to his family and await the inevitable.
