Article: Mother of bone marrow boy Anthony Nolan kills herself.

SHIRLEY NOLAN, the tireless charity worker who developed the world's first bone marrow donor register, has taken her own life after a 20-year battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Police, called to her home in Australia yesterday morning, believe she died the night before from an overdose of drugs.

There were no suspicious circumstances and a report has been passed to the local coroner, said Adelaide Police. In a letter released after her death, she wrote: "I hope today I can end the horror my life has become."

Mrs Nolan, 60, set up the Anthony Nolan Trust for her son who died from a rare condition in 1979 before a suitable donor could be found.
