FOR centuries, it was the haven of the monks of the Benedictine monastery of St Werburgh, where they sank thankfully to rest after a day of farming.
Today, the 12th-century Ince Manor stands ruined and decaying after lying unoccupied for 500 years.
But, within a year, the two neglected stone buildings could be transformed into luxury homes following a restoration costing almost pounds 1m.
Chester Historic Buildings Preservation Trust has secured grants totalling pounds 930,000 to restore the Grade I listed building in Ince village to its former glory.
