In 1972, a few college students in Maryville, Tenn. with a fondness for a certain Rolling Stones song started a neighborhood restaurant promising sizzling burgers and a colossal salad bar.
Today, Ruby Tuesday is run by the same group of friends. It claims to be "a billion-dollar public company with more than 500 restaurants in nearly every state in America and in countries from Iceland to India."
Company profits were up 25 percent this quarter. Its share price nearly doubled this year, from a 52-week low of $7.81 to a high of $14.68.
Meanwhile, competitors watched their share prices dive.
