The former chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Ann Brown, has seized upon the issue of low rates of response to CPSC recalls and is calling for a federally mandated product registration program. She has launched a campaign to "overhaul the system for recalling children's products." [1]
In a news conference launching her campaign, Brown implied support for her legislative proposal by a major toy company, which denies that claim.
Brown alleged that consumers often do not learn about product recalls, and thus don't take the recommended action. Her solution is to mandate the use of product registration cards to be prepaid by ...
