UN Namibia Council and Fund to be dissolved

The UN Council for Namibia is expected to be officially dissolved by the General Assembly at its resumed forty-fourth session later this year. The UN Fund for Namibia also would be phased out after current programmes are completed.

Both measures were recommended by acclamation on 19 June by the Council for Namibia itself. Its programmes, activities and assets would be transferred to the Namibian Government. A new committee, to be created by the General Assembly, would serve as trustee of the Fund until its closing.
