The methanol market in China this year has enjoyed a rising trend with its price increasing on a monthly basis. The price of methanol was approximately RMB 1 300 per ton in the first two months. It then increased to RMB 1 500 /t in March, and jumped to RMB 1 700 /t in April. In May, the price continued this upward trend to reach RMB 1 900 /t. It seemed a favorable climate for the market. However, an insidious issue is set to have a great impact on the market.
Since July 1 this year, the Chinese Government will formally implement ten standards regarding "formaldehyde-emitting restraints: mandatory criterion on room upholstery and decoration".
