Borax in China is mainly used in the glass industry and also in the enamel industry. The consumption of borax in the glass industry in the recent years accounts for around 85% of the total. The output of flat glass was 182 million standard boxes in 2000, a rise of 15.9% over 1995 and the average annual growth rate during the Ninth Five-year Plan period was 3.0%.
