QUESTION How did Lord Kitchener die?
LORD Horatio Herbert Kitchener (1850-1916) won the victory at Omdurman in 1898 which secured the Sudan, successfully concluded the Boer War and made a good job of later roles as commanderinchief of India and consul general in Egypt, creating for himself an aura of invincibility.
When war broke out in 1914 he became Secretary for War and was so popular that his famous 'Your Country Needs You' poster, bearing his face, helped raise three million volunteers to the British Forces before conscription was needed.
