EUROPEAN FERTILIZER producers are concerned that new safety measures planned by the European Union (EU) for the storage of ammonium nitrates could reduce the use of those compounds as fertilizers. The measures are being introduced in response to the explosion at the AZF ammonium nitrates plant of Atofina's Grande Paroisse fertilizer subsidiary at Toulouse, France, last September. That incident killed 30 people.
